Ask Koa tool (closed beta)
Ask Koa is the tool that connects your client assistant to the Koa Agent system. When your client assistant sends a prompt through OAK, Ask Koa uses your Trade Desk Platform API token to access your account, then Koa Agent runs the capability needed to answer it—whether that's answering a question about the platform or completing a task within it.
NOTE: OAK access is currently available to select partners in closed beta. To register your interest, contact your account representative at The Trade Desk.
OAK tools
When you download and setup OAK, the kit contains the following tools for AI assistants:
- Ask Koa: Relays prompts and creates agents to serve user requests, then drafts a response to your AI assistant. Multiple capabilities are supported in this one tool.
- Report Feedback: Reports user feedback about the response from Ask Koa. For details, see FAQs.
Koa Agent
Koa Agent is the underlying system with a set of capabilities. It contains skills that run LLMs and use scripts to access the Platform API. To accomplish the goal, the system can call query the GraphQL API or search documentation to retrieve relevant information. In some cases, the system calls an LLM to retrieve complex information, queries, and analysis.
The following table shows some of the specialized capabilities that the Koa Agent system supports. Anything performed in the platform is possible.
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Help | This contains a skill to fetch information sourced from documention in the Knowledge Portal, Edge Academy, and OpenTTD. |
| Search | This contains a skill that gets live data across your campaigns, ad groups, creatives, audiences, seeds, and deals—pacing metrics, performance data, and audience insights, by searching and running the equivalent query using the GraphQL or REST API. |
| Insights | This contains a skill that gets data from live campaigns to create insights about campaign KPIs, dimension breakdowns, and goal tracking. |
| Troubleshooting | This contains a skill for troubleshooting analytics to determine sources of error or outdated function calls. After it identifies an issue, you can generate and execute a modification plan to remedy the issue. |
| Campaign Creation | This contains a skill that plans campaign creation based on workflows and asks you questions to draft a modification plan. After approval, it executes the steps in the modification plan to create a campaign. |
| Audience Building | This contains a skill that builds audience segments based on workflows and asks you questions to draft a modification plan. After approval, it executes the steps in the modification plan to build an audience or seed. |
| Reporting | This contains a skill to monitor your live campaigns, ad groups, deals, and creatives. It can evaluate reports based on your KPIs. |
Conversations
To improve the quality of your conversations, provide context to your client assistant. Here's what you need to send as context when starting a conversation through your client assistant:
- Provide your API token in your MCP configuration, not the chat. For details, see Get started.
- Specify your intent when interacting to better determine if you're looking for information or executing a plan.
- Upload relevant documents into your client assistant to share details about them in the conversation. The Ask Koa tool does not directly look at your files.
- Keep track of your chat ID to continue the conversation at a later point.
IMPORTANT: AI can make mistakes, answers given by the Koa Agent are modified by your client assistant. Always verify the answers.
Insights Conversation Example
The following is an example conversation between a client assistant and the Koa Agent, asking about metrics.
Client assistant (User): Which creative is performing best in this campaign?
Koa Agent (Reporting): Creative ABC (ID: CTV-02) is performing best.
It leads on engagement and video quality, including higher completion and stronger overall viewer response compared to the other creatives.
If you want, I can also identify the worst-performing one.
Client assistant (User): Yes
Koa Agent (Insights): The weakest is Creative XYZ (ID: OLV-07).
This creative is completing slightly less often than the others, even though all creatives have similar setup, spend, and delivery conditions.
This suggests the difference is driven by how audiences or inventory are responding to the creative itself — not a platform or trafficking issue.
If you want, I can turn this into a side-by-side creative comparison table or dig deeper into whether inventory mix is the likely driver.

Troubleshooting Conversation Example
The following is an example conversation between a client assistant and the Troubleshooting Agent.Client assistant (User): Why is my ad group underpacing?
Koa Agent (Troubleshooting): Your base bid is significantly lower than comparable ad groups, with the same geo, channel, and ad formats, placing you well below market medians.
This limits auction entry, reduces access to premium supply, and contributes to weaker delivery and competitiveness. Your biggest opportunity is to raise bid floors to match market and unlock broader inventory access.
Base Bid
Current: $5.00
Market Median: $7.45
Percentile: 27.3 (Below Typical)
Implication: low win rate and constrained delivery
📍 Base bid recommendation
Your current base bid of $5.00 sits well below typical market levels (27th percentile). To move toward competitive delivery, we recommend increasing your base bid into the $6.50–$8.50 range.
Current base bid: $5.00
Optimal bid: $8.00

FAQs
The following are commonly asked questions about the Ask Koa tool and the Koa Agent system.
What is the difference between all the Koa branded terms?
Several terms use the Koa name, but each refers to something different.
- Koa is the artificial intelligence that powers The Trade Desk platform.
- Ask Koa is the tool that connects client assistants with Koa Agent.
- Koa Agent is the system that does the work.
- Koa Assistant is an AI assistant in the Kokai UI.
See also The Trade Desk terms.
What should I ask?
To familiarize yourself with the platform, we recommended starting with simple non-executable questions that apply to the Help Agent. For example, try asking it to do the following:
- Surface help documentation from user guides, workflows, and troubleshooting.
- Browse release notes for recent Kokai feature changes that impact your existing workflows.
- Look up API reference information to understand field values, schema requirements, or feature-specific constraints.
See also Example prompts.
How is my Ask Koa usage tracked?
API calls made by the Ask Koa tool uses your API token to perform GraphQL operations and shares the same usage and limits.
What data can be read from my account?
Everything that supports an API call is queryable and visible to Ask Koa. You can create limited access tokens to lower the visibility of your data. For example, if you're planning to create a campaign, you don't need to have the ability to read reporting information.
What information is used for analytics?
Analysis performed by the Insights Agent or Troubleshooting Agent uses the following key metrics:
- Supported KPIs and goal types: CPA, ROAS, CPC, CTR, CPCV, and vCPM. See also Goals and KPIs.
- Dimensions: geography, inventory, ad format, device type, audience segments, creatives, time of day, and technology stack.
NOTE: When prompting with a lookback window, live data is limited to hourly Agile data.
Does Koa Agent communicate with agents outside of The Trade Desk?
No. Koa Agent communicates through the MCP built by The Trade Desk to handle platform-related tasks.
How do I provide feedback on my experience with the Ask Koa tool?
You can reply through your client assistant to share feedback within the chat or explicitly call the report_feedback tool. Ratings are on a scale of 1 - 5, and you can add optional comments on your experience.
