Getting started with aggregate sales measurement

Easily onboard and share aggregated sales measurement data with The Trade Desk with a simple integration workflow. With this solution, you can maintain control over your attribution methodology and share data at an aggregated level.

Here's what you need to know about the benefits and intended uses for Aggregate Sales Measurement:

Onboarding prerequisites

To harness the full potential of The Trade Desk Aggregate Sales Measurement solution, you must satisfy the following criteria:

Have purchase or sales data, which can be online, offline, or both. For example, you might be a merchant or measurement partner.
Have the capability to do attribution of conversions from impression data shared by The Trade Desk.
Have user IDs (email addresses, loyalty card numbers) and the capability to convert them to IDs that can be matched to our TDIDs. Otherwise, you must work with a third-party vendor to map your internal IDs to TDIDs or device IDs with their cross-device capabilities.

If you are new to The Trade Desk platform and meet our requirements or have any questions, contact us at The Trade Desk website. Otherwise, reach out to your assigned Data Partnership Manager to get started.

Workflow overview

The onboarding process for aggregate sales measurement requires close collaboration between you as the measurement partner and The Trade Desk. The following table outlines the steps.

IMPORTANT: You must complete your onboarding before your advertisers' first campaigns go live.

Step Performed By Description Notes
1 Measurement partner Choose the grains you plan to report on and inform The Trade Desk. None.
2 Measurement partner
The Trade Desk
Agree on the following:
Sales report format
Fields and frequency of exposure feeds from The Trade Desk
Frequency of reporting (daily, weekly)
Reporting delay after the sale date (maximum 7 days)
None.
3 Measurement partner Share your attribution methodology. For example, if you report attributed sales based on impression date or sales date; use multi-touch or last-touch attribution.
4 The Trade Desk Provide the following:
S3 buckets exclusive to your account
Report file naming convention
There will be two sub-folders for data uploads:
  • The Trade Desk exposure feed (campaign impressions)
  • Your reports (sales data)
5 Measurement partner
The Trade Desk
Complete end-to-end testing. None.

After completing the onboarding process, you can begin your collaboration with advertisers to report sales. Here's a high-level overview of this process:

  1. Agree on what is to be measured. For example, this could be SKUs purchased, locations visited, and actions taken.
  2. Prior to launching a campaign, the advertiser should make sure that they have allowed sharing of their impression data. If the advertiser has any issues or questions, they should work with their Account Manager at The Trade Desk.
  3. You retrieve the impression data and run attribution.
  4. You generate a report per agreed format and naming convention and upload to the S3 bucket that The Trade Desk provided during the onboarding.

If you ever need to rewrite past sales data, follow the specified file naming convention to upload your sales data.

Report file naming convention

To prevent any failures of the automated tasks associated with processing your reports, be sure to use the following naming syntax for your files:

{PARTNER_NAME}_sls_{DATETIME}_{TOTAL_FILES}_{FILE_SEQUENCE}_{BACKFILLING_METHOD}.{FILE_EXTENSION}

For example: abcmerchant_sls_20240212T154739_5_5_incremental.csv

The following table explains each placeholder value in curly braces ({}) that you must replace.

NOTE: The file name is not case-sensitive.

Name Part Placeholder Description Notes Example Value
{PARTNER_NAME} Your advertiser, partner, or merchant name. We don't validate this field value. abcmerchant
{DATETIME} The report timestamp in the yyyyMMddTHHmmss format. Here's what you need to know:
  • Files with the same timestamp are grouped into one batch, and the conversion job starts from the oldest file.
  • If you use a daily log workflow task, this date triggers the log file task.
20240212T154739
{TOTAL_FILES} The number of files in the batch. None. 7
{FILE_SEQUENCE} The sequence of this file in the batch, starting from 1. IMPORTANT: This value must be less than or equal to the {TOTAL_FILES} value. 3
{BACKFILLING_METHOD} The data backfilling method:
  • incremental (Add new records.)
  • fullrestatement (Overwrite all data.)
  • singledayrestatement (Overwrite the sales data on one day.)
The singledayrestatement method applies only if you use an hourly log workflow task. fullrestatement
{FILE_EXTENSION} The report file extension, which can be either of the following:
  • csv
  • parquet
None. parquet

Yes. Just be sure to follow the specified naming convention to upload your sales data.

What are my options if I lack the capability to sync my user IDs with TDIDs?

Contact your assigned Data Partnership Manager to discuss your options. For example, you can choose to work with a third-party vendor, such as Circana or LiveRamp, to map your internal IDs to TDIDs or device IDs with their cross-device capabilities.
