The Trade Desk connector for Snowflake: Onboard data

Advertisers can designate one or more authorized entities who can upload the advertiser first-party audience data or conversion data to The Trade Desk using the Snowflake Native App. The onboarder, or other entity, can upload data for multiple partners, when authorized to do so, in a single instance of the native app.

This guide provides instructions for the two main participants in this workflow:

Use cases

Here are some scenarios where an advertiser might choose to use this feature:

What you need to know

Here's what you need to know about the data onboarding process, for both roles, onboarder and advertiser.

Onboarder

If you're onboarding data on behalf of another, here's what you need to know:

To get started, see Onboarder: Get set up.

Advertiser

If you're authorizing another participant to upload data on your behalf, here's what you need to know:

To get started, see Advertiser: Set up onboarder authorization.

Onboarder: Get set up

To get set up as an onboarder, to onboard data for advertisers using the Snowflake Native App, the sequence is as follows:

  1. You: Tell your contact at The Trade Desk that you want to get set up as an onboarder. Provide as much information as you can, including what you want to do, and include these details relating to your Snowflake account:

    • Organization name
    • Data sharing account identifier
    • Account locator
    • Cloud platform
    • Edition
  2. You: When you are given access to the native app, install the native app by clicking through from the Snowflake marketplace listing. For details, see Install the native app in the Get Started documentation.

  3. You: In the native app, generate a pairing token (URL). For details, see Configure the native app (Step 3).

  4. You: Send the following information to your contact at The Trade Desk:

    • The pairing token that you generated in the previous step.
    • The email address of the Partner Portal API login for your account at The Trade Desk.
  5. The Trade Desk: Reviews your access request and, if approved:

    • Sets you up as an onboarder.
    • Pairs your Snowflake account with the Snowflake Native App.

When all steps are complete, your partner can create a relationship with you.

When you place data for a specific advertiser in the data table and initiate processing (see Process data), the native app automatically associates the data with the advertiser linked to the active pairing, and processes the data for the advertiser.

Advertiser: Set up onboarder authorization

If you want to authorize an onboarder to upload data to the platform on your behalf, you don't even need to use the Snowflake Native App. You can just set it up in the Partner Portal.

If you want to use the Native App for other activities as well, the workflow steps are as shown in the following table.

NOTE: Instructions for the first three steps are in Get started. Authorizing an onboarder is step 4, and if this is all you want to do you can skip Steps 1–3.

  1. Request access to the native app.
  2. Install the native app through the Snowflake Marketplace listing.
  3. Configure the native app.
  4. Create a data integration with the onboarder.

Create data onboarder integration

IMPORTANT: There are steps the onboarder must complete to be on the Data Onboarder Integration list (Step 5). Before you start, make sure the onboarder has completed the setup steps.

To authorize an onboarder, follow these steps:

  1. At the top-right corner of the Partner Portal menu bar, click the profile icon.

  2. On the login page, enter your username and password, and then do one of the following:

    • In the Partner Portal menu bar, click the same profile icon with your initial on it. From the dropdown menu, choose Data Integrations.
    • Navigate directly to the Data integrations page.
  3. Click the Data Onboarder Integrations tab.

  4. Click Add New Data Onboarder Integration.

  5. In the Data Onboarder Integration overlay, choose the onboarder you want to authorize.

NOTE: If the onboarder you want is not on the list, the onboarder needs to complete some steps.

  6. When you've chosen the onboarder, a new field appears, Select partner to use in this pairing. Choose the partner.

  7. A new field appears, Select advertisers to use in data integration. Click one or more checkboxes to select advertisers.

  8. Click Create.

The new integration is displayed on the Data Onboarder Integrations List summary.

NOTE: If you want to authorize an additional onboarder to upload data on your behalf, repeat the process. You can pair with multiple partners and, in each case, one or more of their associate advertisers. However, you must create a separate data onboarder integration for each partner.

Manage data onboarder integrations

From the Data Onboarder Integrations List summary, you can complete the following actions to adjust the permission you're granting to an onboarder:

Process data

Once the pairing relationship has been set up, processing of data is exactly the same for onboarders as for users processing their own data. For details, refer to the applicable sections:

Verify data processing

Once the pairing relationship has been set up, verification of data processing is exactly the same for onboarders as for users processing their own data. For details, refer to the applicable sections:

FAQs

The following is a list of commonly asked questions about the Snowflake Native App.

Why can't I see all available procedures?

If you find that you cannot complete a key basic procedure, it's likely that you haven't been assigned the application role necessary to complete the task or procedure.

For example, if you don't have the APP_ADMIN application role, you might see the following error on trying to run the SP_START_SEGMENT_TASK task:

SQL compilation error: Unknown user-defined function APP.SP_START_SEGMENT_TASK.

If this happens, ask someone with the app owner's role (the role that installs the app) to assign the necessary application role to you.

For details, see Application roles.
