Contributing deals

To scale spending for commitment and endeavor deals, you can add contributing deals, which are endeavor deals that don't have a media spend goal. This feature helps optimize deal performance, provides additional inventory access to meet campaign objectives, and maintains deal quality and terms.

IMPORTANT: Only inventory within the contributing deals that match the terms of the primary deal can count toward the media spend goal.

Here's what you need to know about contributing deals:

Terms and definitions

The following table defines the main terms needed to understand contributing deals.

Term Definition
Primary deal A commitment deal or endeavor deal with a media spend goal that can receive contributions from other deals to help meet its deal terms.
Contributing deal An endeavor deal without a media spend goal that provides additional inventory access to help fulfill the spending requirements of a primary deal.
Qualified avails Avails that match the terms of the primary deal.
Spend attribution The media spend from contributing deals that can count toward the media spend goal of a commitment deal.
Deal relationships Contributing deals that maintain their own performance metrics while simultaneously supporting primary deal objectives.

Benefits of contributing deals

The following table lists the benefits of contributing deals.

Benefit Description
Deduplication To deduplicate bid requests, multiple contributing deals in a single bid request count as a single avail.
Life cycle management You can add or remove contributing deals during the deal life cycle through API operations. The buying party automatically accepts contributing deals when no other deal terms have changed.
Multiple contributors Primary deals can have multiple contributing deals attached simultaneously.

Bid response technical details

To maintain proper attribution of spend when bidding occurs through contributing deals, The Trade Desk prepares bid responses following these guidelines:

This ensures proper reporting and spend attribution when inventory access happens through multiple deal paths.

The following table lists each mutation and what operations you can perform.

Create a deal with contributing deals

The following example dealCreate mutation adds a contributing deal during deal creation inside the commitment terms. Each deal contains the deal ID of the contributing deal and KAID of the owner of the contributing deal.

mutation {
  dealCreate(
    input: {
      terms: {
        commitmentTerms: {
          contributingDeals: {
            changes: {
              dealsToAdd: [{
                id: "CONTRIBUTING_DEAL_ID_PLACEHOLDER"
                ownerId: "KAID_PLACEHOLDER"
              }]
            }
          }
        }
      }
    }
  ) {
    errors {
      ... on MutationError {
        __typename
        message
        field
      }
    }
  }
}

Replace contributing deals

The following example dealRevise mutation updates a primary deal with a new set of contributing deals in the contributingDeals field. Each deal contains the deal ID of the contributing deal and KAID of the owner of the contributing deal.

mutation {
  dealRevise(
    input: {
      id: "PRIMARY_DEAL_ID_PLACEHOLDER"
      terms: {
        commitmentTerms: {
          contributingDeals: {
            dealsToReplace: [{
              id: "CONTRIBUTING_DEAL_ID_PLACEHOLDER"
              ownerId: "KAID_PLACEHOLDER"
            }]
